About All About Oscar

I’m an unapologetic Oscar nerd.

I’ve been obsessed the Academy Awards since I was a kid. I watched every movie that won Best Picture by the time I was 13 (starting with 1927’s Wings). I know more Oscar trivia than is probably healthy (if you think Meryl Streep’s won the most acting Oscars, think again). I watch the show every year, no matter how long it is (and that’s saying a lot!). I get really into it, especially when there’s a movie or an actor I’m rooting for. (When Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for The Silence of the Lambs, I ran all around my house in a spasm of uncontrollable joy.)

Some people are fanatical about the Super Bowl. But for me, it’s all about Oscar.

Over the last couple years, I’ve become increasingly dissatisfied with a lot of the blogs and commentary about the Oscars on the web.

Most of them tend to be about predicting the winners or superficial gossip or red carpet who-are-you-wearing bullcrap.

This is not that kind of Oscar blog.

This is a blog about the people and the movies who’ve made Oscar history. It’s about the big names and the little known facts, the famous wins and the infamous snubs. It’s for people who love movies, and for people who might not consider themselves film buffs, but who might be looking for some quality Oscar picks for their Netflix queue. (If that’s you, you’ve come to the right place.)

And by the way, I’m not a film critic. I’m just an aspiring screenwriter and filmmaker, a minor YouTube celebrity, and yes, a proud Oscar nerd.

I suspect this blog won’t bring about world peace or make Sarah Palin disappear. But if it brings a little joy to movie lovers a few times a week—hey, that’s good enough for me. (Besides, might as well do something useful with the obscene amount of Oscar trivia inside my head.)

Anyway, thanks for visiting! I wish I could chat longer, but… I’m having an old friend for dinner. Bye now. 😉 –David

P.S. – The name of this blog is inspired by one of my favorite Oscar-winning films. Can you guess which one? (If you need a hint, go here.)

Yes, I know, but I’ll let someone else answer. 🙂
